Centre for Performing Arts

Performance of The Boy Friend by CPA

For anybody with an interest in the performing arts, either at the front of the stage or behind the scenes, the CPA has an amazing range of opportunities to get involved.

UWE performing arts facilities

To accommodate all of their activities, CPA requires dedicated rehearsal space. UWE has invested over £200,000 on providing office space, four large rehearsal rooms and four practice rooms, three of which are equipped with pianos.

Backstage workshop

CPA’s backstage team work in a specially fitted workshop large enough to build and store scenery for theatre sets. The team meet once a week to learn the skills associated with the technical theatre production process including:

  • set building
  • lighting
  • sound
  • stage and production management

CPA performance venues

Once the rehearsals are complete, CPA performances can be seen in many of the city’s premier theatres and concert halls. The UWE Symphony Orchestra plays at Bristol Cathedral and Colston Hall, while the CPA theatre group produces an annual musical spectacular at the Redgrave Theatre.

The CPA also produces a multitude of smaller shows at more intimate venues in speciality performing arts such as barbershop singing, a gospel choir and a chamber orchestra.
