Students at an induction event for international students

About UWE Language Exchange

What is UWE Language Exchange?

The Language Exchange is a fantastic opportunity to:

  • Make new friends with speakers of other languages
  • Learn a new language or improve your language skills
  • Learn about different cultures and countries

With students from over 140 countries worldwide, UWE Bristol is a truly international community. Don't miss out on the opportunity to celebrate and take advantage of our wide linguistic and cultural diversity.

How do I get involved?

Find a language buddy to swap languages

A language buddy is a great way to learn a new foreign language or, as an international student,  improve your English speaking skills. You will meet up with your buddy regularly and spend half the time talking in each of your respective languages to practice and learn.

Popular languages include:

  • Chinese
  • Vietnamese
  • German
  • French
  • English

Find your language buddy today

To sign up for the Language Exchange, please fill out the application form. Once you have done this, we will be in touch with more details about your new language buddy. If you have any questions, please email the Community Hub at communityhub@uwe.ac.uk.

All language buddies will be provided with ideas of when, where and how often to meet plus some key phrases and ideas for topics to cover. View our Language exchange buddy information pack for further details. We also encourage you to supplement your language learning with additional learning resources.

Come along to ‘Café Lingua'

Our relaxed language cafe will help you meet other students and learn languages in a relaxed, social environment over a free cup of tea and cake from around the world.

Café Lingua is for anyone interested in languages. There will be fun quizzes, activities and fascinating facts about languages. The cafe is also an opportunity to find other students looking for a language buddy.
