Assessment offences

Typing on a keyboard

The University takes cheating, collusion, plagiarism and other breaches of assessment regulations very seriously.

The University's Plagiarism Policy

You are advised to read the University's Plagiarism Policy statement and the academic regulations and procedures.

You may be particularly interested in Appendix A , which gives examples of assessment offences and Appendix C , which outlines penalties for plagiarism.

In the event that you are involved in any allegation of an assessment offence, you will be given an opportunity to discuss the nature of the allegation, the investigative procedures and their possible outcomes, with a nominated staff member responsible for dealing with such matters in your faculty.

A copy of the assignment/coursework, annotated to indicate the sections/elements causing concern, can be made available to you on request.

Advice for students

In such instances, you may also wish to contact the Students' Union Advice Centre for independent guidance, advice and support in this matter. Many cases of plagiarism arise because quotations from books and other sources are not properly referenced. Please seek advice from your faculty if you are in doubt about referencing.
