Faculty Research Ethics Committees

All research involving human participants, their data and tissue, must be approved by a UWE Research Ethics Committee. Each Faculty has a Research Ethics Committee (FREC), responsible for reviewing and approving research conducted by its staff and students.

Human participant research conducted by undergraduate and postgraduate taught dissertation students must be formally approved by their academic supervisors, and where the supervisor thinks necessary, referred to the Faculty Research Ethics Committee for approval.

Undergraduate and postgraduate taught students

All undergraduate and postgraduate taught students undertaking research (with human participants) should discuss with their supervisor and where appropriate seek guidance from the Programme/Module Leader. See also the operating procedures for Student project review and Student research FAQs.
