Drop into the Glenside Student Centre on Saturday 17 September between 10am and 4pm or Sunday 18 September between 11am and 3pm. There will also be lots of things going on to help you settle into University life and it will be an opportunity for you to meet staff and other new students, so come along and join us!

Course Commencement

The BSc(Hons) Occupational Therapy course will begin on Monday 19 September 2011 at 9.30 at the Glenside Campus.

Please report to Reception on arrival where staff will be available to direct you to your first session.

Induction Week Timetable

The induction week timetable is available to download.

You will be able to access your individual timetable through myUWE once you have registered, using your UWE ID number. Please print out and bring a copy of your timetable with you for induction week, this will ensure you attend the correct sessions.

Please note that this course is a vocational undergraduate course. In order to demonstrate professional behaviour, you must attend all scheduled sessions throughout the academic year. Attendance at all sessions is monitored and if it falls below an acceptable level, this will impact your ability to graduate.

Suggested Reading List

A reading list is attached for your information but we do not expect you to purchase these books. We advise you to wait till you have seen the books held in the Library, prior to purchasing any. Essential texts will be discussed during the induction period.

Preparatory Work

Some preparatory work is required which will help you prepare and focus on the course before you join us.

Mentors Handbook and Contact Details

Both you and your mentor will need a copy of the mentors handbook. All students could benefit from having a mentor so please read the pack and endeavour to do this. You should let the Occupational Therapy administrative staff have your mentor contact details as soon after induction as possible.

IT

You will need to use a range of IT skills while you are a student with us so if you are a bit rusty it would be a good idea to put some practice in before you start your course to ensure you are familiar with using e-mail, the internet and software such as Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. UWE has developed a range of resources to help students which you will be directed to at the relevant time but for now you might find it useful to have a look at a recent version of our Student Computing at UWE guide.

Reminder

In previous correspondence you will have already been informed about our requirements regarding:

• Academic certificates

• Criminal Records Bureau checks

• Occupational Health clearance

If any of these requirements are still outstanding you really must send the relevant paperwork to us, as instructed, as soon as possible, preferably ahead of Welcome Week/end and induction.

Access Arrangements for Disabled Students

The Faculty Student Advisers are available for students to consult on a range of issues, including access arrangements that are needed to ensure equal access for disabled students. If you indicated on your application form that you consider yourself disabled, then you should expect to hear from them before the course starts. However, whether you indicated this on your form or not we would like to draw your attention to this service.

If you consider yourself disabled in any way and would like advice on how the Faculty can promote your inclusion in the course please contact the Student Advisers at Glenside who can be contacted as follows:

0117 32 88828 | hscstudent-advisers@uwe.ac.uk

Please note that arrangements may be needed to ensure equal access for students with conditions including dyslexia, mental health problems, long-term illness, sensory or physical impairment.

Uniform

Uniform will be provided free of charge, details of which will be given to you once you commence the course. Uniform measurement will take place in January and will be ready for you prior to placement.

NHS Student Grants Unit (SGU) Bursaries

The initial bursary payment from NHS Student Bursaries should be paid within the first two weeks of registration. Students will receive a two month instalment in advance. This will be paid directly into your bank account.

Queries concerning non-payment of a bursary should be directed to the Student One Stop Shop (S1SS) or relevant Site Office. Students in receipt of a bursary must ensure that NHS Student Bursaries are informed of changes in bank details via the PSM10 form which is available from the S1SS and Site Offices.
