CTS contributes to UWE Research Assessment Exercise 2008 success
In December 2008, results were published of the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise - a major indicator of research achievement for groupings of academic staff in UK universities. At the time of the previous RAE in 2001, CTS was not in existence.
RAE2008 has considered achievements in the period 2001-2008 in relation to research publications, postgraduate research, research income and esteem. A substantial proportion of CTS staff were included in a submission alongside colleagues in the School of the Built and Natural Environment at UWE to the RAE's 'Town and Country Planning' Unit of Assessment.
RAE2008 results take the form of a quality profile for each submission, identifying research that is world leading or internationally excellent across to that research which is recognised nationally or below the standard of nationally recognised work.
The results reveal that 85% of research achievement in UWE's Town and County Planning submission is recognised internationally and 50% overall is judged to be at least internationally excellent. UWE's submission was one of the largest nationally.
This is a strong endorsement of both the quality and quantity of research activity and achievement in Town and County Planning at UWE including, substantially, the Centre for Transport and Society.
We now look forward to continuing to pursue relevance and excellence in our aim to improve and promote understanding of the inherent links between lifestyles and personal travel in the context of continuing social and technological change.
