UWE also has a range of options and courses to support students, whether to bring students up to the required level to begin their studies or to help with English Language skills during your studies.

English language courses

Before you start your studies at UWE, we strongly recommend that you consider one of our the following three language courses.

Pre-Sessional English Programme

This flexible course has different entry points depending on your ability in English, and allows you to study for a minimum of 8 weeks to a maximum of 38 weeks. It is designed for international students who wish to acquire the level of English Language skills required to undertake a course of Higher Education in the UK.

The course will enable you to cope with all aspects of studying and living in the UK, including understanding lectures and academic texts, writing assignments, speaking in seminars and giving presentations.

See full Pre-Sessional English Programme details for 2012.

Pre-Sessional English Language Course (two weeks)

This two week course gives the perfect introduction to studying at UWE. Students who have already been accepted on a course at UWE can spend the two weeks immediately before term starts practising their English language skills.

The course will also help you feel at home and settled at the University, so that when term starts, you will know your way around. You will improve your social English so that you will integrate with ease into UK society, and have a happy and productive time studying in the UK.

Academic writing, Communication and English language Skills (ACES) Programme

The ACES Programme offers a range of support activities in academic writing, communication and English language skills. If you are a full-fee paying international student, you are eligible to take part in courses to improve your general language skills, as well as courses which focus on academic writing skills, to help improve your assignment writing.

One to one consultations with English Language tutors are also available to meet your individual language and communication needs. Full information can be found on the ACES web pages.
