Located in the heart of Bristol, the Digital Cultures Research Centre (DCRC) is a space for researchers working in the areas of media theory and practice to share their work.

DCRC is part of the University of the West of England, Bristol, and the strategic research partner of the Pervasive Media Studio. The Studio brings together researchers and commercial producers in the field of wireless applications including groundbreaking work on social gaming and Alternate Reality Games.

Our research

Our research is principally concerned with the meaning and uses of media technologies in everyday life, focusing upon Pervasive Media, Play, and User-Generated Content.

Digital technologies are having a profound impact on media cultures and the established methods for producing and understanding media are undergoing rapid change. 'Digital Cultures' is a precisely chosen name; we believe that people make culture through their interactions with media technologies.

The centre is not just concerned with technologies, or just in audiences and users, but aims to create new knowledge about media applications in real world contexts.

Please visit the DCRC website for the latest news and events information, further information on DCRC projects and to see a list of project team members.
