iNets - South West Innovation Networks

The iNets South West projects provide sector specific assistance to innovative small and medium sized businesses across the South West of England. 

Funded by the European Regional Development Fund, the UK government and a range of regional partners, iNets help companiesEuropean Regional Development Fund and entrepreneurs in some of the UK’s most promising sectors to collaborate, innovate and grow.

UWE Bristol is the lead partner for the Environmental iNet and Microelectronics iNets. We are also a prominent partner in the Aerospace and Advanced Engineering iNet.

Environmental iNet


Environmental goods and services SMEs can access a customised programme of free business assistance, ranging from workshops and one-to-one expert consultations, to funded trade visits and networking opportunities. 

The project focuses on renewable energy, waste management, sustainable transport and sustainable construction. The iNet:

  • Encourages faster innovation in developing products and services
  • Improves competitiveness and market awareness
  • Helps businesses to engage with a range of routes to market

Microelectronics iNets

This iNet strengthens the region's performance with respect to innovation, both nationally and internationally, by supporting companies across the South West in microelectronics, photonics and digital communications. Key themes for activities include:

  • Medical technology
  • Low power
  • Intelligent transport systems
  • Smart energy
