About the Bristol Leadership and Change Centre
Bristol Leadership and Change Centre (BLCC) is one of a number of centres of excellence at Bristol Business School. It builds on our university’s long history of research, education and business/community engagement in leadership and change to offer new insights and approaches to leading, managing and mobilising social influence.
We are a diverse community of academics and practitioners, drawing on insights from fields including organisation studies, psychology, social marketing, philosophy and anthropology to explore and illuminate leadership, management and organisational practice in a wide range of contexts. We take a practical, evidence-based approach to support individuals, groups and organisations looking to develop their ability to adapt and thrive in a complex and changing world.
Our research demonstrates that developing ‘good leadership’ is about more than just identifying ‘good leaders’ – it requires careful consideration of the complex relationship between leaders and followers, as well as the organisational and cultural contexts in which they find themselves. Identity, ethics, language and power are just some of the factors that shape and influence leadership processes, outcomes and interpretations.
We work closely with a range of organisations, including the NHS, Public Health England and the Department of Transport to produce positive impacts on health and wellbeing. Within Bristol we are actively involved in initiatives on city leadership and transforming the provision of services and support for people with a history of homelessness and addiction. Further afield, we are partners in international initiatives, including malaria elimination in South-East Asia and southern Africa.
Critical, reflective and engaged scholarship is at the heart of what we do, and feeds directly into our degree programmes and professional/executive education offerings, such as the BA(Hons) Business Management and Leadership, Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship, Bristol MBA, Postgraduate Certificate in Leadership and Management, ILM short-courses and our award-winning ‘team entrepreneurship’ course.
