MBA alumni connect with UWE Bristol and fellow graduates

Four passionate MBA alumni worked with Bristol Business School to organise the inaugural meeting of Bristol MBA Alumni Group this March. The event welcomed people from across the region with alumni from as far back as 1997 networking alongside new graduates at Clarke Willmott’s offices near Temple Meads.

UWE Bristol Pro Vice Chancellor and Executive Dean Dr Noel Burchell welcomed everyone to the event. He also gave attendees a sneak preview of the new Business and Law School, which is due for completion in January 2017.

The network was set-up by Bristol business owners and MBA alumni Jason Sprague, Bryony Thomas, Kim Jones and Keith Probert, with support from the UWE Bristol Alumni Team. There is already an exclusive The Bristol MBA group on LinkedIn. But founder members saw an opportunity to build on this and create a network that would benefit local MBA alumni through stronger links with business and the University.

Founder member Kim Jones, of High Growth Knowledge Company, said "It was great to see the conversations between new graduates and alumni. A big talking point was how different subjects in the course have moved on over the years, reflecting the changes in global business. So we talked about arranging taster courses to help alumni keep their skills fresh.

"The alumni who came offered UWE Bristol students lots of support through joint ventures, live assignments and placement opportunities. There’s a lot of goodwill in the group and a generous spirit to give back to UWE Bristol in a meaningful way to business."

Alumni also gave ideas and feedback at the event on how they would like the network to evolve. Suggestions included more networking events, continuing professional development (CPD), and refresher sessions. Founder members and the Alumni Team are considering these and will be outlining the network’s next steps at the next meeting, which is planned for later in 2015.
