Bus service improvements

Service changes - Autumn 2014

There are several service changes happening from Autumn 2014 as highlighted below.

Wessex service changes from September

Bus service Changes
11 Service has been withdrawn and replaced by 11a and 12.
11a

Service will operate all day Monday - Saturday as a loop round the city centre towards Bower Ashton Campus. Additional services will run during the busy morning period until 10:00.

12 Revised route using the new Romney Avenue link and extended to Bower Ashton Campus, Monday - Friday. New Saturday service will terminate at the centre from UWE.
13 Service will now terminate at Frenchay Campus and will no longer serve Bradley Stoke. Monday - Friday frequency increased to every 10 minutes, with additional late evening journeys. 
 14 Additional late night departures until 23:00 (02:00 on Mondays). Service will now also operate on Saturdays and Sundays.
 15 Service withdrawn.
 19 Timetable altered to improve reliability. This service will also operate every 15 minutes.
 625  Additional Sunday service to Cribbs Causeway.

First Bus service changes from September

In addition, First Bus are amending their network from the start of the autumn term as follows:

71 New service linking Frenchay Campus with the centre via Gloucester Road will run every 15 minutes.
72

New service linking Frenchay Campus with the centre via Lockleaze, Gloucester Road and Whiteladies Road via Redland Station and Black Boy Hill - this service will run every 20 minutes.

X74 New service linking the city centre with Bradley Stoke via Frenchay Campus - this service will run every 30 minutes.
70 This service which runs from UWE to the centre via Ashley Down will be slightly reduced and will run every 15 minutes.

Changes affecting specific campuses

Campus Changes
Bower Ashton Campus
  • Overall frequency significantly improved to eight services per hour between routes 11a and 12.
  • 11a will serve all campus accommodation sites in the city centre.
  • Service 12 will continue to serve Gloucester Road as well as Romney Avenue/Muller Road.
  • Filton Avenue will not be served for journeys to Bower Ashton Campus.
  • First services X2/X3 will link Bristol Bus Station to Clanage Road and will run every 15 minutes during the day and will also provide a Sunday service.
Frenchay Campus
  • Overall frequency from Gloucester Road will remain similar to present.
  • Filton Avenue frequency will be slightly reduced.
  • Improved frequency to Fishponds.
  • Henleaze area and top of Whiteladies Road will not be served by Wessex buses, however, First service 72 will serve all of Whiteladies Road.
  • Parts of Bradley Stoke will be served hourly by service 625. Service X74 will serve Bradley Stoke.
  • More late night journeys on M32 to city centre, including until 02:00 on Mondays.
  • Services 12 and 72 will use the new Romney Avenue link, bypassing congestion on the ring road.
Glenside Campus
  • Improved frequency of every 10 minutes on service 13 which will terminate at Frenchay Campus.
  • In addition, First service 5 provides a direct link to the city centre.
