The UWE Boat Club is an ever expanding club with up to 100 new members each year. The club welcomes all levels from novice beginners to International Senior Oarsmen. All rowers are assessed and evaluated in line with the World Class Start Group Guidelines.

The UWEBC's rowing teams range from Novice Men and Women to Senior Men and Women who compete in BUCS throughout the year. The regatta at the National water sports centre in Nottingham is the main BUCS event which is watched by talent ID coaches who regularly invite rowers to a training week in Caversham "the GB Olympic training centre".

UWEBC main rowing venue is Wycliffe College for coaching and canal water access for all squads and is located a few kilometres from Gloucester rowing club which provides UWE Bristol's senior programme with the best water in the region to train on. UWE Bristol is currently investing in its own boathouse along the same stretch of water.

Facilities

Rowing is unique and has specialist requirements for the development of athletes. To facilitate performance development the Centre for Sport offer the rowing club exclusive Ergo training provision in Walls Court Farm Gym, Frenchay Campus complement their water training.

Training and Competition

The training schedule provides water based training and land based training on the ergo’s and strength and conditioning sessions.

Coaching Team

The UWE Boat Club have a full time head coach who is assisted by a fully qualified part time team to deliver the Novice programme through to the Senior programme.

Nick Quirke – UWE Head Rowing Coach
Nick was born in Hampstead Heath, London attending school in Henley Berkshire. He tried Rowing at school when he was 13 years old achieving national awards through to U18s and competing for Great Britain.

Nick started coaching at Shiplake College winning the junior 15s national schools event, then started coaching at UWE Bristol in 2007. Nick has worked with a variety of athletes including World Class talent ID Rowers Morvath Ward and Ben Lyon.

In 2012 Nick was promoted to Head Coach achieving success in many of BUCS regatta championships as well as winning Varsity Blade 2014 and working with Charlie Wait Roberts who won Silver U23 at the Henley Royal Regatta.
