Hend and Lamiaa design a great Gromit for Bristol
UWE Bristol graduates Hend and Lamiaa won a competition to paint a statue for the Gromit Unleashed 2 arts trail this summer.
The famous Aardman character, complete with original decoration by our animation alumni duo, will be displayed at Bower Ashton campus.
The winning entry was inspired by oriental patterns and Arabic calligraphy.
“Coming from Egypt, we thought it would be interesting to include something from our culture and also reflect Bristol's diversity. We chose the Arabic letters of the word ‘Bristol’ to make patterns of the grass and trees surrounding the deer next to the campus”.
Taking place across the city from 2 July – 2 September, the arts trail will include over 60 original sculptures, including our Gromit. The trail has been organised by The Grand Appeal, the Bristol Children's Hospital Charity.
The Gromit was painted in a studio alongside other famous designers and local artists, all creating sculptures for the trail. Our film captures the process of decorating the 1.5m high Gromit.
