“My undergraduate arts degree didn’t pave a direct pathway into a career for me, and I didn’t feel as though I was quite ‘finished’ with education. Having enjoyed working on student and charity events during my three years at university, I felt that the MSc in Events Management would allow me to combine my practical experience with my love of theoretical learning."
“Starting a new subject from scratch was daunting, but the teaching and support I received at UWE Bristol made the transition a smooth and enjoyable one. I was soon able to put my newly-acquired skills into practice through the placements on offer.”
“For me, the highlights of the course were the placements. I worked on two great events: Eat Drink Bristol Fashion- the pop up restaurant in Queen’s Square- and Glastonbury Festival, where I helped to set up traders and assist with logistics during the event."
“Both of those were brilliant experiences where I got to see first-hand all the elements involved in running great events. I went on to do my dissertation on Glastonbury as well.”
“After finishing my dissertation on Glastonbury Festival, I started working as a freelance events coordinator, assisting with a wide variety of events in Bristol. Although I enjoyed the practical side of events management I felt that I still wanted to learn more."
“It was my dissertation supervisor who suggested doing a PhD – something I’d never considered before – and a position then came up to teach as a lecturer at UWE Bristol, alongside my doctoral studies. This gave me the perfect combination of teaching the academics of Events Management, while also having pursuing my own research interests."
"I never dreamed that I would be in the position that I am now at 26. I have attended and presented at national and international conferences; am working on a research project that I am incredibly passionate about; and am able to share my enthusiasm for Events Management with incredibly supportive staff and enthusiastic students."
