Easter at UWE Bristol

Our campuses will be closed from 16:30 on Thursday 18 April 2019 and will re-open from 08:30 on Wednesday 24 April 2019. Most services will be unavailable during this time, but some areas will remain open. You can find out more below.

Please check the Centre for Sport section and The Students’ Union at UWE website for their opening hours.

We hope you have a great Easter break. If you’re on campus, come along to our Easter egg hunt on Sunday 21 April.

What will be open?

If you want to get a head start on some work, the libraries at Frenchay, Glenside and Bower Ashton will be open every day.

Ask a Librarian, our 24/7 live chat service will be available every day over Easter. Our Co-operative partners can help with any research questions. UWE Bristol Library staff will respond to any questions that need extra help when they're back. They’ll be available on Tuesday 23 April from 10:00–16:00.


Frenchay Library is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Library staff will be unavailable, with the exception of Tuesday 23 April when staff will be available from 10:00-16:00.

The Library Lounge (Level 4) will also be open, where you can heat up your own food or make a hot drink. There’s also a variety of vending machines.

Remember, you’ll need your student card to get in.

Glenside Campus – Library

Glenside Library will be open every day from 07:30–00:00. You’ll need your student card to get in. No library staff will be available.

City Campus – Bower Ashton Library

Bower Ashton Library will be open every day from 07:30–00:00. You’ll need your student card to get in. No library staff will be available.


You'll be able to buy hot drinks, sandwiches and paninis from Starbucks on Frenchay Campus (during set times). There’ll also be a microwave for you to heat up your own food.

Starbucks will be serving at the following times:

You can access Starbucks from the F block patio (above The Students’ Union at UWE shop) or the entrance opposite the Community Hub. You’ll need your student card to get in.

What will be closed?

Most student support services, including the Information Points, will be closed over Easter and will re-open on Wednesday 24 April.

Gloucester Campus

Alexandra Warehouse will be closed for the duration of the Easter break. You’re welcome to use Glenside Library or any of the facilities at Frenchay Campus.

The University Health Centre

The University Health Centre on Frenchay Campus will close at 16:30 on Friday 12 April and will re-open at 08:30 on Monday 29 April.

If you’re registered with them you can be seen at The Old School Surgery in Fishponds. They’ll be open as usual during the holidays, except for weekends and bank holidays.

Alternatively, if you become ill whilst you’re at home you could be seen at your local doctor’s surgery as a temporary patient.

If you need medical advice when your doctor’s surgery is closed, call NHS 111 (available 24 hours a day, every day of the year).

Campus catering outlets and shops will have different opening arrangements over the Easter holidays.

Talk to someone online with Kooth Student

You can talk to a counsellor online through Kooth Student. It’s free, confidential and anonymous. They will be available every day, including bank holidays.

Their regular opening hours are Monday to Friday from 12:00–22:00 and weekends from 18:00–22:00.

24/7 textline

The Students’ Union at UWE and UWE Bristol, in partnership with Crisis Textline, have launched a 24/7 textline. This service lets you text for free 24/7 crisis support. All texts are answered by trained volunteers, with support from experienced clinical supervisors.

If there’s an emergency on campus, call +44 (0)117 32 89999 (available 24/7, every day of the year). We’ll send staff to help and we’ll call the emergency services for you so that they can find you quickly.


The Cotswold Customer Services desk on Frenchay Campus will remain open 24/7 over the closure period – so just pop in or call +44(0)117 32 86227 if you have any problems with your accommodation.

IT support

Our out-of-hours IT support service will be available 24 hours a day, every day over the university closure period – just call +44 (0)117 32 83612.

Assessment support

If something happens over Easter which might affect your ability to do an assessment, don’t panic. You can read our guidance on the assessment support options, but the best thing to do is to talk to an Information Point as soon as they re-open (Wednesday 24 April, 08:30) so that they can advise on your specific circumstances.

Campus may be quiet, but Bristol’s a great place to be over Easter!

Make the most of the city


From the Big Bear Sculpture Trail at the Wild Place Project to the Funderworld Theme Park at the Downs, there’s still plenty to enjoy in and around Bristol over the holidays.

Supermarkets and restaurants

Most supermarkets and restaurants will be open over Easter – but double-check their opening hours online as they may close earlier than usual on bank holidays.

If you’re staying on Frenchay Campus, check the opening hours of Asda Filton, Sainsbury’s Filton or Lidl Stoke Gifford so you can make sure you’re stocked up.


Buses and trains may be running reduced services over the Easter bank holidays. Check the First Bus Group website or the Travelwest website to plan your journey and check the timetables before you travel.
