Christmas at UWE Bristol
Our campuses will be closed from 16:30 on Friday 21 December 2018 and will re-open from 08:30 on Thursday 3 January 2019. Most services will be unavailable during this time, but some areas will remain open and we’ll be running events on campus every day. You can find out more below.

What will be open?
If you’re staying in Bristol over the Christmas break, Starbucks on Frenchay Campus will be open for you to relax with other students. Other areas will also open for various events. Or, if you want to get a head start on some work, the libraries at Frenchay, Glenside and Bower Ashton will be open every day.
Frenchay Library is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. No library staff will be available.
Ask a Librarian, our 24/7 live chat service will be available over the holidays. Our Co-operative partners can help with any research questions. UWE Bristol Library staff will respond to any questions that need extra help from Thursday 3 January.
The Library Lounge (Level 4) will also be open, where you can heat up your own food or make a hot drink. There’s also a variety of vending machines.

Glenside Campus – Library
Glenside Library will be open every day from 07:30–00:00. You’ll need your student card to get in. No library staff will be available.
City Campus – Bower Ashton Library
Bower Ashton Library will be open every day from 07:30–00:00. You’ll need your student card to get in. No library staff will be available.
We’ll kit Starbucks out with board games and you’ll be able to buy hot drinks, sandwiches and paninis (during set times). There’ll also be a microwave for you to heat up your own food.

You can access Starbucks from the F block patio (above The Students’ Union at UWE shop) or the entrance opposite the Community Hub. You’ll need your student card to get in.
What will be closed?
Most student support services, including the Information Points, will be closed for the duration of the Christmas break.
The University Health Centre
The University Health Centre on Frenchay Campus will close at 17:00 on Friday 14 December and will re-open at 08:30 on Monday 7 January.
If you’re registered with them you can be seen at The Old School Surgery in Fishponds. They’ll be open as usual during the Christmas holidays, except for weekends and bank holidays.
Alternatively, if you become ill whilst you’re at home you could be seen at your local doctor’s surgery as a temporary patient.
If you need medical advice when your doctor’s surgery is closed, call NHS 111 (available 24 hours a day, every day of the year).
Campus catering outlets and shops
All catering outlets and shops (with the exception of Starbucks on Frenchay Campus) will be closed over the Christmas closure period.

We’re running a range of free events every day over the vacation period for students who are staying on campus or in Bristol over the holidays, including Christmas Day lunch and films. Please make sure you book your place at each event so we know you’re coming!

Talk to someone online with Kooth Student
You can talk to a counsellor online through Kooth Student. It’s free, confidential and anonymous. They will be available every day, including Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
Their regular opening hours are Monday to Friday from 12:00–22:00 and weekends from 18:00–22:00. Their opening hours will be slightly different on the following days:

The Students’ Union at UWE and UWE Bristol, in partnership with Crisis Textline, have launched a 24/7 textline. This service lets you text for free 24/7 crisis support. All texts are answered by trained volunteers, with support from experienced clinical supervisors.

Security – 24/7 support for any problems on campus
If have a problem on any campus, contact our security team on +44 (0)117 32 86404. They’re available 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
Emergencies on campus
If there’s an emergency on campus, call +44 (0)117 32 89999 (available 24/7, every day of the year). We’ll send staff to help and we’ll call the emergency services for you so that they can find you quickly.
The Cotswold Customer Services desk on Frenchay Campus will remain open 24/7 over the holiday period – so just pop in or call +44(0)117 32 86227 if you have any problems with your accommodation.
Our out-of-hours IT support service will be available 24 hours a day, every day over the university closure period – just call +44 (0)117 32 83612.
If something happens over Christmas which might affect your ability to do an assessment, don’t panic. You can read our guidance on the assessment support options, but the best thing to do is to talk to an Information Point as soon as they re-open (Thursday 3 January 2019) so that they can advise on your specific circumstances.
