How to buy guest tickets

July 2020 Graduation Ceremony update - 6 April 2020: All July ceremonies have been postponed.

At the moment we are monitoring the situation with COVID-19 and following government advice and guidance. We are planning behind the scenes what the ceremonies will look like at another time, this is obviously an unprecedented situation and we thank you for your patience as we put plans in place. As soon as we can, we will update you with the new arrangements.

Find out more about the postponed ceremonies.

You will be sent an email inviting you to register for a UWE Bristol Awards Ceremony, with the opportunity to purchase guest tickets.

You do not require a guest ticket to graduate, but your guests will require tickets if they wish to attend the ceremony itself and enter the post-ceremony alumni reception.

Buy online

You will need a credit or debit card and billing address to purchase guest tickets. Please click the link in your invitation email to our Online Store, where you will be able to buy a maximum of two tickets – providing this is done before the registration deadline. Each guest ticket costs £15 and the price goes towards the cost of holding the event, a souvenir programme and refreshments after the ceremony.

If you register and don’t buy guest tickets, or just buy one guest ticket, you can return to the Online Store before the registration deadline to purchase up to your two-ticket maximum.

If you do not complete your award, your registration will be cancelled and your guest tickets will be removed and refunded. View more information on cancellations and refunds.

Release of additional guest tickets

After the registration deadline has passed, we cancel the guest tickets for students who are not attending and then calculate the remaining guest tickets for each Awards Ceremony.

We will contact you about additional guest ticket availability once the registration deadline has passed and if you have registered for your ceremony. If there are additional tickets, we will tell you the maximum number you can buy, when they go on sale and how long you have to purchase them.

We will also let you know if there are no additional tickets available.

Additional tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. If you have not already purchased your first two guest tickets at this point, please be aware that they are no longer guaranteed.

Any additional tickets remaining on the day of your graduation will be sold in the two hours before on a first-come, first-served basis. Only cash payments will be accepted on the day.

Please note: Occasionally, more students will register to attend for a ceremony than we predicted. For some ceremonies, this means that we are unable to release additional guest tickets.

Transferring of Tickets

Tickets are not transferable. We try and make the process of allocating tickets and additional tickets as fair as possible. We do not permit the transfer of tickets between students or permit any request to the graduation office to transfer tickets. All guest tickets are required to be collected with photo ID, so if you transfer tickets there is a risk you will not be able to collect this ticket on the day of your ceremony. We reserve the right to withdraw tickets we know have been transferred.

Reclaiming VAT on guest tickets

UWE Bristol will not refund VAT on guest tickets. However, if you live outside the EU (this includes the Channel Islands of Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and Herm), you may be able to recover the VAT paid on guest tickets through a VAT-refund scheme offered by HM Revenue and Customs. For more information or contact the HMRC helpline on +44 (0)845 010 9000.

Ticket collection

Guest tickets will be available for collection at the Cathedral when you arrive for your Awards Ceremony through the cloister door entrance. We do not post tickets. Please bring your student card with you on the day to collect them.

Your guests will be directed through the north entrance so you will be able to pass on your guest tickets once you have registered and robed.

If you know your guests are going to arrive late, please inform the staff at the registration desk. We will make sure your guest tickets are taken to the north door entrance and left with a member of the security team. Guests will need their tickets to enter the Cathedral and for the refreshments afterwards.

Friends or family without tickets

Guests without a guest ticket can enter the cathedral with you in the two hours before the Awards Ceremony and will be able to join you for photographs before the Awards Ceremony. However, they cannot watch the ceremony and must leave the Cathedral when non-ticket holders are asked to do so.

Guests without a guest ticket can watch the ceremony from The Greenhouse (37 College Green, Bristol BS1 5SP) where all the ceremonies will be live streamed.

Please note: This is an external venue and the streaming is provided by the venue and not UWE Bristol. We are only able to offer this for ceremonies at Bristol Cathedral.
