Terms and conditions for the study abroad photo competition.

1. About the competition

a. The aim of the competition is to expand UWE Bristol’s image library in respect of content relating to students studying overseas to enable UWE Bristol to promote studying abroad to current and prospective students.

b. The competition is free to enter.

2. Prizes

a. First Prize: £150 Amazon gift voucher.

b. Runner up (2 prizes): £50 Amazon gift voucher.

3. Deadlines

a. The competition opens on 1 August 2018.

b. The deadline for entries is midnight on Thursday 30 May 2019.

c. Winners will be announced during the week commencing Monday 1 July 2019. The winners will be announced on the UWE Bristol study abroad web pages (www.uwe.ac.uk/studyabroad) and individual winners will be contacted via email during the week commencing Monday 1 July 2019.

d. Winning photographs will be used on the UWE Bristol website and social media channels and used as promotional materials. Other terms of usage are detailed below.

4. Conditions of entry

a. All entries must be submitted to studyabroad@uwe.ac.uk.

b. All entrants must complete the below consent form for their entries to be valid.

c. Entries must be submitted digitally (JPEG).

d. Image entry file size must be the largest possible.

e. Images must be submitted by midnight on Thursday 30 May 2019.

5. Eligibility

a. The competition is open to UWE Bristol students studying abroad at a partner institution through via an exchange agreement during the 2018-19 academic year only.

b. The entrant must be the original artwork creator and hold the copyright.

c. Images must not be licenced or disposed of any rights that will conflict with the competition.

6. Copyright

a. In all images submitted for this competition, copyright remains with the respective entrants. However, in consideration of their providing the competition, each entrant grants a worldwide, irrevocable, perpetual license to the University of the West of England, Bristol, to feature any or all of the submitted images in any of their publications, their websites and/or in any promotional material connected to this competition.

b. Where possible, the photographer will be credited when the image is used.

7. Permission

a. Entrants confirm that each individual whose identifiable image is featured in the competition entry has given consent for the use of his/her image in connection with this competition.

8. Judging

a. The photographs will be judged by a panel composed of colleagues from the Study Abroad Team and UWE Bristol Marketing.

b. The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

9. Winners

a. The winners will be announced on the UWE Bristol study abroad web pages (www.uwe.ac.uk/studyabroad) and individual winners will be contacted via email during the week commencing Monday 1 July 2019.

10. Privacy notice

a. This notice applies to entrants of the UWE Study Abroad photo competition ran by UWE Bristol. We will process your data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation as applied, enacted and amended in UK law. The data controller is the University of the West of England.

b. Your personal data and images submitted for the competition will be collected for the purposes of selecting a competition winner and expanding UWE Bristol’s image library in respect of content relating to students studying overseas to enable UWE Bristol to promote studying abroad to current and prospective students.

c. Your personal data will not be shared with any third parties outside of UWE Bristol.

d. In all images submitted for this competition, copyright remains with the respective entrants. However, in consideration of their entering the competition, each entrant grants a worldwide, irrevocable, perpetual license to the University of the West of England, Bristol, to feature any or all of the submitted images in any of their publications, social media accounts, websites and/or in any promotional material connected to this competition. Where possible, the photographer will be credited when the image is used.

e. In respect of your personal data held by us, you have the following qualified rights to:

  • access it
  • receive it in a structured machine readable format
  • rectify it if it is not accurate or complete
  • erase it
  • restrict its processing
  • withdrawing any consent provided or otherwise object to its processing
  • complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
