Petra's Clearing journey
Petra, 36, was a year into an occupational therapy course when she decided it wasn’t for her. She secured a place on UWE Bristol’s Radiotherapy and Oncology course through Clearing and is currently on a 12-week placement at Poole Hospital.
"I was one year through an occupational therapy degree at another university when I decided it wasn’t right for me. Over time I’d become more interested in cancer care, and I wanted a course with more medical and technical content."
Finding a good fit
"I’d heard good things about UWE Bristol. When I visited, I loved the campus, the people and the environment. I felt I fitted in and could imagine myself being happy there.
"Clearing involved a lot of communications with the university. I exchanged several emails with one particular woman who was lovely. She advised me on the process, and even rearranged my interview date when it clashed with my wedding preparations."
Tutors with real-world experience
"My first year has been everything I hoped for, and more! The tutors are great – you feel they would do anything to help. All of them have worked as radiographers so they understand the challenges of the role and help you grow emotionally as well as professionally.
"It’s confirmed that this is definitely the right path for me. I’d still like to take a masters at some point, and I’d definitely consider further study at UWE Bristol."
