Emma's Clearing journey
Emma applied to UWE Bristol via Clearing to study BA(Hons) Interior Design and she hasn’t looked back.
A straightforward process
“As a mature student, I’m not your average Clearing student, but after string of failed interviews and job rejections, I started thinking about university. Then when I saw UWE Bristol’s Clearing advert I decided on the spur of the moment to apply. I called the UWE Bristol Clearing team and they told me they had places available. I spent some time researching the course online and it looked really appealing and offered great career prospects.
"I also contacted the Programme Leader and he called me back and for a phone interview and offered me a place on the course straightaway, subject to me completing my application. Given that everything was completed in one day, I found the application process really straightforward. "
Life as a mature student
"Studying when you have a job and a family is full on. The course is intense but that’s because the tutors are keen to challenge me and make sure we’re prepared for the world of work. The technical and digital skills have definitely lived up to my expectations which gives me confidence as a mature student as I feel like I’m really building on my CV and qualifications.
"The opportunities on offer at UWE Bristol are impressive, from amazing industry speakers to real-life projects. At the moment for example, I’m waiting on the result of a grant application to redesign nursing rooms at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. Having received a number of rejections due to skills and experience, it’s reassuring that I’m able to create a portfolio of work where I can showcase real world work."
It's never too late
"For anyone thinking about going to university to gain new skills and make a career change, I would say that it’s never too late!”
