Offers, results and confirmation

You’ve decided. You’ve applied. We can’t wait to meet you. What next? Here you’ll find all the vital information about offers, results and confirmation for your undergraduate application.

Types of offers explained

When we offer you a place at UWE Bristol, there are two kinds of offer:

Conditional offers

If you've not yet received your exam results, we'll usually make a conditional offer, which means it's subject to you getting the grades for your course.

Unconditional offers

If you already have your exam results and you've met the academic entry requirements of your course, we may make you an unconditional offer.

Check your offer status and progress through the UWE Bristol Welcome website and UCAS Hub.

Receiving an offer

If your application is successful, we will:

  • make you an offer
  • send you useful information regarding your course and various UWE Bristol policies
  • suggest that you take a look at term dates.

After you have received your offer

  • If your course provides an Offer Holder Day, we’ll invite you along by email.
  • A few months before you're due to start, we’ll send you preparatory materials with your joining instructions to help you prepare for your studies. This might include a list of pre-course reading, or a shopping list materials/equipment you may need for your course.
  • You'll be sent communications regarding the actions required for the completion of your DBS and occupational health check to your UWE Welcome Portal in June.

We’ll keep in touch via the UWE Welcome website – so check this regularly for updates. It’s where we’ll send you reminders about when to apply for student finance, accommodation, as well as your course joining instructions.

Accepting and declining your offers

When you’ve received a decision for all your choices, UCAS will contact you to ask that you reply to your offers. There are deadlines to reply by so make sure you know when they are.

Receiving your results and confirming an offer

Results day! Keep everything crossed. We receive many exam results automatically, but not all, so you'll need to check the list of exam results we receive from UCAS to see if yours are listed.

If your exam board is on the list

We'll confirm your places if you meet the terms of their offer. You just need to log into the UWE Bristol Welcome website from 08:30 on results day to see our decision – or visit UCAS Hub.

If your exam board is not on the list

You'll need to send your results directly to us. The easiest way to do this is to upload them on the 'My documents' page on the UWE Bristol Welcome website. We won't be able to make a decision until we see them, so make sure you do this as soon as you can.

Conditional offers and entry requirements

If you don’t meet the conditions of your offer

Try not to panic. It's worth checking your status on the UWE Bristol Welcome website or UCAS Hub first, as we may have already confirmed your place – and there's always Clearing.

Degree courses

If you do not meet the conditions set for a degree course, we will automatically consider whether we are able to uphold your original offer or offer you a place on a different course or foundation course. A change of course is not guaranteed. This opportunity will depend on your achieved qualifications, whether you have met any subject specific requirements and the availability of places at that time.

Foundation courses

If you do not meet the conditions set for a foundation course, we would not be able to progress your application and may advise that you look into studying a Level 3 qualification, such as, Access to Higher Education.

If you achieve higher than the conditions of your offer

If you have applied for a foundation course but now meet the entry requirements for the degree course, we will automatically consider whether we are able to change your course to the first year upon receipt of your results.

For certain courses with a selection activity such as portfolio or interview, we will contact you earlier in the cycle.

Please note we cannot guarantee entry into the first year and this opportunity will depend on your achieved qualifications, whether you have met any subject specific requirements and the availability of places at that time.

Unconditional offers

If you already have your exam results

Foundation courses

If you have applied for a foundation course but now meet the entry requirements for the degree course, we will automatically consider whether we are able to change your course to the first year should you meet our entry requirements. For some courses this may involve a selection activity.

Please note we cannot guarantee entry into the first year and this opportunity would depend on your achieved qualifications, whether you have met any subject specific requirements and the availability of places at that time. This change of course would mean that you would be able to complete your studies in one less year which will have significant financial benefits for you.

Degree courses

If you do not meet the conditions set for a degree course, we will automatically consider whether we are able offer you a place on a different course or a foundation course.

If you were to be offered a place on the foundation course, it would extend your studies by one year and aim to provide you with a smoother transition to university level studies.

If we offer you a different course

If you’ve not met the conditions of your original offer, we may offer you an alternative course. Once your firm and insurance choice universities have made their final decisions, you can log in to UCAS Hub, where you can reply to our offer within five days.

If you don’t do this within the five-day limit, your offer will automatically be declined.

If you've not received a message

Don’t worry, this just means we’re still making our decision. You don’t need to call us, just keep checking the UWE Bristol Welcome website and UCAS Hub for updates.

Remember, if you’re still waiting for GCSE or other results, which form part of your conditional offer, we won’t be able to make a decision until we have all of those details. Make sure you send these to us as soon as you can.

If you've not been successful

Try not to worry as you could still get a place at university starting this year.

We consider all applicants who miss their offer conditions to see if we’re still able to confirm their offer. Often we’re still able to offer you a place if your results were close, so try not to panic.

Don’t forget to check with your insurance choice – they may be able to confirm your place if we can’t.

Clearing

If you’ve not been successful securing your firm or insurance choices, you’ll be automatically entered into Clearing. Log in to UCAS Hub to view your Clearing number. You can then start looking at the options out there. UWE Bristol has dedicated Clearing information, which we update with the latest course vacancies on a daily basis. If you find yourself in Clearing, it’s important to check our website regularly.

And remember, many students go on to find the right course and university for them this way, so if you unexpectedly find yourself in Clearing, try to keep positive that you can still find the course for you.

Rejecting your place

If you don't want to take up your place at UWE Bristol and would like to be released into Clearing, please use the ‘Decline my place’ button in UCAS Hub. You will lose the offers you are currently holding and will be able to apply to another university through Clearing.

Changing or deferring your course

Changing your course

If you’d like to change course, we may be able to consider you for an alternative one, as long as places are still available and you meet the course entry requirements. Contact our Admissions Team and we’ll be happy to help you.

Deferring your place

If you’d like to defer, email our Admissions Team and briefly explain your reasons. Please include your UWE Bristol Welcome ID number, and write ‘deferral request’ in the subject line. We’ll try our best to accommodate your request for a deferral, however, it’s not possible for all courses and you may be asked to reapply the following year.

Where a deferral request is approved this will be for one academic year only. If you are requesting to defer for a second time you will need to withdraw your application and re-apply for your chosen year of entry. Please note offers made through Clearing are for the current year only and deferral is not permitted.

Cancelling your place with us

Changed your mind? You can cancel your place within 14 days from the day after the first day of term – or 14 days from the day after you complete your registration, whichever is later.

If you still want to cancel your place, please email the Admissions Team at Admissions@uwe.ac.uk as soon as possible, titling your email 'Cancelling my place'.
