Students arriving at UWE Bristol

New students welcome event

As a new student starting at UWE Bristol, you must attend a welcome event to confirm your attendance in person and to collect your student ID card.

Frenchay or City Campus students

If you’re studying at Frenchay or City Campus, you'll need to attend a welcome event on either Wednesday 11, Thursday 12 or Friday 13 September. It takes place at the Exhibition and Conference Centre (ECC), Frenchay Campus, between 10:00–16:00.

This is a drop-in event, so you don't need to attend the whole day.

You'll be able to:

  • complete registration
  • pay your fees
  • collect your ID card
  • have your passport and visa checked if you’re an international student
  • collect your accommodation key
  • access a range of support services
  • take advantage of activities in our Global Lounge
  • sign up with a doctor.

There will also be a lounge for any supporters and family members, where staff will be available to answer any questions about life at UWE Bristol.

Glenside Campus students

If you’re studying at our Glenside Campus you’ll need to attend the welcome event on Friday 13 September 2019. It takes place from 10:00-16:00 in room 0SC014, Glenside Campus.

At this event, you’ll be able to:

  • complete registration
  • pay your fees
  • collect your ID card
  • sign up with a doctor
  • collect your key for Glenside accommodation
  • access a range of support services
  • visit our Global Lounge area.

Postgraduate students

Postgraduate students aren’t required to attend the welcome event as registration is included in your induction. For the majority of postgraduate students, apart from a few exceptions, induction takes place in the week commencing 16 September 2019. Please check your timetable for details.

You’ll be able to check your timetable in the Courses tab in myUWE after the timetable release date.

International students

Home Office regulations require all international students (those requiring a visa to study in the UK) to attend a passport and visa scanning session in person.

Registration for international students

You will be able to do this at our Welcome event:

  • Wednesday 11 September to Friday 13 September 2019: 10:00–16:00, Exhibition and Conference Centre (ECC)
  • Friday 13 September 2019 at Glenside Campus: 10:00-16:00 in room 0SC014

Collect your student ID card – all campuses

You’ll be able to collect your UWE Bristol student ID card at your registration provided you’ve submitted your photograph online via myUWE (see our photo ID guidance).

Please ensure you bring some photo ID (eg original passport, photographic driving license, national UK/EU identity card, citizen card) with you to your registration.

If you already have a UWE Bristol student ID card, for example if you've previously attended a course at the University, you don’t have to collect a new card.

If you miss the welcome event

We’ll have a Welcome Hub in the library (level two) on Frenchay Campus from Monday 16 September to Friday 11 October 2019. The opening hours are:

  • Monday 16 September to Friday 20 September 2019: 10:00–16:00
