Airport welcome service

In September Student Ambassadors will be based at London Heathrow Airport as part of the UWE Bristol Airport Welcome Service.

Let us know your feedback on your airport welcome

International and European students arriving at Heathrow will be greeted by Student Ambassadors and will be directed to the Central Bus Station. Students will then be able to travel to Bristol via the Megabus coach service or by National Express.

This new Airport Welcome Service will be in place from Monday 9 September 2019 to Friday 20 September 2019 (Monday - Friday).

UWE Bristol will ask students to register their arrival details (i.e. flight number, arrival date, airport destination etc.); this request will be sent via email from June onwards, and reminders will be sent during July and August.

Once the university has received the arrival details, a discount code will be emailed to the student for Megabus, National Express or for the Bristol Airport Flyer. Students can then pre-book their airport transfer to Bristol.

Please note that Megabus coaches depart every two hours from Heathrow and will stop at the University’s Frenchay Campus and the City Centre.

If you are travelling by Megabus we recommend you get off at the University’s Frenchay Campus stop. If you do travel by Megabus to the City Centre, between Monday 9 September–Friday 13 September, you will be supported with your onward travel by BISC ambassadors, who will be positioned at the Bond Street stop 10:00-18:00, wearing blue t-shirts.

International and European Orientation takes place on Wednesday 11 September 2019 to Friday 13 September 2019 in the Exhibition and Conference Centre (ECC). Students will be expected to attend workshops and a country specific session, on the same day that their registration is completed (this will usually take just one day).

Students arriving on Monday 9 September 2019 and Tuesday 10 September 2019 will have the chance to sign up to social events shortly. Event details will be sent to students via email.

When you arrive in the UK

UK currency

Please make sure that you have some UK currency with you or a credit card or other means to pay for anything you may have to buy during your first few days in the UK (for example, food, drink, travel tickets and taxis). Taxis are unlikely to be able to take payment by credit card.

If you cannot change money before you leave, there are Bureau de Change and ATMs (cashpoints) inside the airport terminals.

Your Baggage Allowance

You will need to carry your own luggage, so please travel with luggage which is not too heavy.

The recommended baggage allowance is two medium-sized suitcases or one large suitcase plus hand luggage.
