PhD Studentship: Immersive BIM-based approach for Furniture, Fixture and Equipment (FFE) Design for Buildings

An opportunity to apply for a funded full-time PhD studentship in the Faculty of Environment and Technology at UWE Bristol, supported by a living stipend and tuition fees at Home/ EU rates. The studentship will be co-sponsored by UWE Bristol and Springfield Supplies and Projects Ltd.

The expected start date of this studentship is Tuesday 1 January 2019.

About the studentship

This project is a funded full-time PhD studentship to be conducted within the Department of Architecture and the Built Environment, UWE Bristol, under the supervision of Dr Abdul-Majeed Mahamadu and Professor Lamine Mahdjoubi. The PhD project aims to explore the development and testing of BIM-based virtual reality (VR) applications into the workflows of the Furniture Fixture and Equipment sector. The study will further explore the impact of these applications on process improvement as well as communication with stakeholders.

Funding details

The studentship is available from 1 January 2019 for a period of three and a half (3.5) years, subject to satisfactory progress, and includes  a tax-free stipend which is currently £14,777 per annum. In addition, full-time tuition fees will be covered for up to three years at Home / EU rates. Applicants who are required to pay international tuition fees are encouraged to apply but will be required to cover the difference between the Home/EU and the international tuition fee rates in each year of study.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must have a Masters degree, ideally in Building Information Modelling (BIM). Applicants should possess strong Building Information Modelling (BIM) skills, programming, gaming and virtual reality application development skills.

A recognised English language qualification is required.
