A novel anti-bacterial titanium technology for total joint arthroplasty

About the studentship

Graduates are invited to apply for a prestigious Arthritis Research UK PhD studentship at UWE Bristol, based within the Centre for Research in Biosciences (CRIB). In collaboration with Cardiff University, the studentship explores the development and biocompatibility of a novel antibacterial coating for orthopaedic implants.

Funding details

The studentship will start on 1 January 2019 and consists of an annual tax-free stipend of £21,309, subject to satisfactory progress, for three years. In addition, full-time tuition fees will be covered for the length of the funding period.

The studentship will only fully fund applicants who are eligible for Home/EU fees. Applicants who are normally required to cover international fees will have to cover the difference between the Home/EU and the overseas tuition fee rates.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants should have a minimum of an upper second class degree in a biomedical discipline. Ideally candidates should have completed final year/Masters projects pertaining to medical microbiology and/or mammalian cell culture in a biomaterials setting.

A recognised English language qualification is required.
