Strategy and plans

Library careers and inclusivity plan 2022-2023 (PDF) describes the long-term Library Services strategy for the period 2022-23.

Library code of conduct

  • The library aims to provide you with an environment conducive to learning. This can only be delivered in partnership with you. Please help us achieve this by observing the noise restrictions and leaving study areas clean and tidy.
  • You can consume cold food, cold drinks and hot drinks with lids in the library but please be considerate to others studying.
  • A valid UWE Bristol ID card, or Library card, is required to gain entry to the Library out of core business hours. All users are expected to produce this on request.
  • The University accepts no responsibility for personal possessions brought into the libraries. Please do not leave belongings unattended in our libraries.
  • All Library users should acquaint themselves with the fire and safety regulations displayed in the libraries.
  • Users are responsible for each item issued to them until they return it to the Library.
  • It is the user's responsibility to return items on or before the date due for return. Fines are charged for late return of loans.
  • Users are asked to return loans immediately on request.
  • If users have overdue loans they may not be permitted to borrow until their record is clear. The replacement cost will be charged if an item is not returned.
  • Anyone found to have marked, defaced or damaged any material will be charged the replacement cost. In the case of UWE Bristol staff and students the matter will be referred to the Head of College, or Head of Service, to be dealt with under the Disciplinary Rules and Regulations as a matter of minor misconduct. In the case of other users the matter will be referred to the Head of Library Services and may lead to the withdrawal of access to the Library.
  • All Library users must comply with the law of copyright in their use of any resources they borrow from or use in the libraries or remotely, and with the terms of any licences the University may hold relating to such material.
  • Users will be required to indemnify the University and its staff against any claims made against them as a result of their breaking or causing or permitting others to break the above agreement.
  • If faults occur when using equipment, users should not attempt their own repairs but should inform Library staff immediately.
  • Children must be under the supervision of a responsible adult at all times.
