Why is the Library leading on this? Research data management and the academic library

At the Discover Academic Research Training and Support Conference (DARTS 3, 28 - 29 June 2012) Judith Stewart (Research & Knowledge Exchange Librarian, UWE, Bristol) gave a presentation on Library involvement in RDM.

The focus for this presentation is a case study of library involvement in the development of research data management practice and policies in one university –  Following a brief description of the JISC funded project, the presentation asks some questions about librarians’ involvement in research data management in higher education.

The perspective is particularly that of a librarian in a post 92 university which has a healthy research culture in most parts of the university, with pockets of research excellence in a range of areas including biomedicine and bio-sensing; health and social care, digital creative industries, and robotics.

The presentation asks you to consider why librarians are involved in RDM, and why others might be surprised by this.
