Important: Don't use public wifi unless absolutely necessary and if you do, make sure you use a VPN.

Wifi access for visitors to UWE Bristol

eduroam

Provides wifi access to UWE Bristol students and visitors from participating institutions.

Use your UWE Bristol username followed by '@uwe.ac.uk' and your UWE Bristol password to get connected.

UWE Bristol students can also access other universities' eduroam service. Please ensure eduroam is working correctly on your devices at UWE Bristol before visiting other institutions.

Connect to eduroam

eduroam for iOS

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Wifi.
  3. Select eduroam.
  4. Enter your UWE Bristol username followed by '@uwe.ac.uk' (for example, an2-other@uwe.ac.uk).
  5. Enter your UWE Bristol password.
  6. Select Join.
  7. Select Done.

That's it! You are now connected to eduroam.

Troubleshooting

  • If you are having connection issues, install the geteduroam app from the App Store as an alternative.
  • If you have changed your UWE Bristol password, you will need to remove any previous eduroam connections and start again:
    1. Select Settings
    2. Select General
    3. Select Profile:

    5. Now reconnect to eduroam using the steps above.

Connect to eduroam wifi (PDF)

eduroam for Android

For Android devices, including Chrome books:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Wifi.
  3. Select eduroam.
  4. Change settings to the following:
    EAP method: PEAP
    Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPV2 - This can be under the 'Advance' menu.
    CA certificate (select as appropriate as wording varies from device to device): Use System certificates / Unspecified Do not validate / Do not specify
  5. Enter your UWE Bristol username followed by '@uwe.ac.uk' (for example, an2-other@uwe.ac.uk).
  6. Enter your UWE Bristol password.
  7. Select Connect.
  8. If your Android device requests a domain enter radius01.uwe.ac.uk.

That's it! You are now connected to eduroam.

Troubleshooting

  • If you are using a newer phone and the above steps are not working, install the geteduroam app from the Google Play store as an alternative.
  • If you have changed your UWE Bristol password, you will need to remove any previous eduroam connections and start again:
    1. Remove any previous eduroam connections by going to wifi settings
    2. Long press eduroam
    3. Select Forget network:

    4. Now reconnect to eduroam using the steps above.

Connect to eduroam wifi (PDF)

eduroam for Windows 10 and 11

  1. Choose eduroam.
  2. Select Wifi from the taskbar or settings.
  3. Select eduroam.
  4. Select Connect.
    Please note: you may get a message asking you to 'continue connecting?' - if so, select Connect to continue.
  5. Enter your UWE Bristol username followed by '@uwe.ac.uk' (for example, an2-other@uwe.ac.uk).
  6. Enter your UWE Bristol password.
  7. Select OK.

That's it! You are now connected to eduroam.

Troubleshooting

  • If you are having connection issues, download the geteduroam for Windows as an alternative.
  • If you have changed your UWE Bristol password, you will need to remove any previous eduroam connections and start again.

Connect to eduroam wifi (PDF)

eduroam for macOS

  1. Select Wifi from the taskbar.
  2. Select eduroam.
  3. Enter your UWE Bristol username followed by '@uwe.ac.uk' (for example, an2-other@uwe.ac.uk).
  4. Enter your UWE Bristol password.
  5. Select Continue to accept the server certificate.
  6. Save the certificate to your keychain with your own Mac/iCloud username and password.

That's it! You are now connected to eduroam.

Troubleshooting

  • If you have changed your UWE Bristol password, you will need to remove any previous eduroam connections and start again.

Connect to eduroam wifi (PDF)

XA (eXternal Access)

The UWE Bristol XA service provides access to your personal H: Drive and shared S: Drive.

To access the XA service:

  1. Go to https://xa.uwe.ac.uk.
  2. Enter your UWE Bristol username and password.
  3. Authenticate through MFA.

How to download and upload files with XA

Downloading files

  1. Click on the Drive to see the files and folders. In this example we are using the H: Drive:

  2. Find the file you wish to download to your C: Drive and click on the file name. You will be asked if you would like to save your file, click Save.
  3. Once the download has completed, click on View Downloads to access the file and save it to your machine:

    If you want to download multiple files, you can select several files from the H: Drive screen and then zip them up for ease of downloading.
  4. Add a tick against the file name you wish to download, then click Download:

  5. Now you have the opportunity to zip your files and download the compressed zip folder:

Uploading files

  1. When you want to upload the file back to your H: Drive you will need to click on the Upload Files... button:

    Here you can browse your files:

  2. Browse and find your file (using the Browse button) and click the Open button to add it to the list of files to upload:

  3. Once you have selected all the files you want to upload, click the Upload button at the bottom of the screen. This then uploads the files:

  4. Your files will now be placed in your H: Drive.

If you want to access the UWE Bristol network, you will need to use the UWE Bristol XA (eXternal Access) service, once logged into ASK4 (wifi).

Before connecting to eduroam while visiting other participating institutions, please follow the guidance below:

  • ensure your device is correctly set up to work in UWE Bristol on eduroam
  • check the website of the institution you are visiting to see if you need to amend any settings (for example network proxy settings)
  • read over the policies below.
