Andrew Ross 

Subject specialism: Healthy planning, community engagement, healthy weight environments

Andrew runs his own consultancy called Final Draft. Originally a planner, since 2001 he been a freelance writer and facilitator specialising in how built environment professionals can be persuaded to integrate the health impacts of policy and development into their decisions, and vice versa. He has written more than 150 reports, reviews, briefings and case studies commissioned from a range of clients.

With the Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) Andrew initiated the ongoing Reuniting Health With Planning programme in 2012, and has written a series of guides and reports based on workshops and roundtables involving people from more than 100 local authority areas. These include:

  • Planning Healthy-Weight Environments
  • Planning Healthier Places
  • Reuniting Planning with Health: Healthier homes, healthier communities

Andrew is also:

Until the end of 2014, he was on the Expert Group of Sustainable Food Cities.

Prior to setting up Final Draft Consultancy, Andrew ran the Environment Resource and Information Centre at the University of Westminster, and was Policy Officer at the Town and Country Planning Association. He has a Masters in Environmental Education. Andrew also works alongside local people to improve the health of their environment. He is an Associate of Living Space Project, a social enterprise that supports communities to improve their local urban environment.

Andrew is an accredited cycling instructor and has trained many people to cycle on London’s roads, from schoolchildren to an MP.

Lynn Gibbons 

Subject specialism: Public health, health and planning, health impact assessment

Lynn Gibbons is a Specialty Registrar in Public Health, and has been the Public Health Practitioner in Residence at the WHO Collaborating Centre for Healthy Urban Environments. There, she undertook a range of projects include health impact assessment, an evaluation of community level physical activity interventions and local authority training on healthy weight environments the links between health and planning. In her previous role, Lynn worked in sustainable development with a focus on health and the built environment, including coordinating the Sustainable Health South West project. Her specific interests include the impact of the built environment on health inequalities and on mental health.

Daniel Black

Subject specialism: Urban development, planning policy and consultancy

Daniel Black specialises in urban development decision-making, and focuses on health and sustainability. Daniel has been Non-Executive Director of his family's multi-award winning development company, Clipper Estates, for over a decade. Since setting up as an independent consultant in 2012 he has won £750,000 in research funding from Innovate UK, NERC and the Wellcome Trust and has been commissioned to assess the health and sustainability of three high profile super-major developments in Bristol.

He is a Visiting Research Fellow at UWE Bristol and works closely with the World Health Organisation Centre for Healthy Urban Environments there on the Wellcome Trust project “Moving health and sustainability upstream into strategic urban development decision making” as well as multiple other universities, academics and consultants, particularly at the Universities of Bath, Bristol, and Reading’s Henley Business School.
