Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs)
Cirencester Friendly KTP (2011 – 2012)
Academics within the Software Engineering Research Group (SERG) recently completed a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with Cirencester Friendly Assurance in Wiltshire, UK. Following significant growth of the company, Cirencester Friendly Assurance required a total overhaul of their computerised transaction and information systems capabilities.
UWE academics guided the recruitment of an appropriate partner and set strategic direction for the change transformation, which involved successfully managing stakeholder participation and outsourcing software development activities. Successful integration of various computerised systems during the change was a key challenge, as was data migration, and successful roll-out and final systems deployment was achieved in the first quarter of 2013.
Space Engineering Services Ltd KTP (2008-2011)
A member of the Software Engineering Research Group formed part of the team that participated in a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with Space Engineering Services Ltd, Bristol. The overall goal of this KTP was to transform the IT infrastructure from one based upon spread sheets to one based upon contemporary IT tools, and thus enable the business processes and performance of strategic areas of the company to be enhanced.
The SERG contribution was to enable the KTP associate and other key company employees to attain skills in business process analysis and modelling using the Role Activity Diagram business process modelling language. Once learnt, the modelling technique was used first to capture as-is business processes and then to design and to model more efficient to-be business processes in preparation for provisioning those processes with contemporary IT.
Gamma Telecom Ltd KTP (2007-2011)
A member of the Software Engineering Research Group was the lead academic for a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with Gamma Telecom Ltd., Newbury. On this KTP, two associates were employed first to integrate business process management system software tools into the company's IT infrastructure, and then to use the new tool set to automate a set of formerly manual business processes.
UWE's work addressed key strategic goals of the company by enabling it to take new telecommunication services to market faster, and to provide service users with much faster services. A significant additional outcome of this KTP was that one of the associates was supervised by the academic team to carry out an MPhil that addressed the problem of integrating disparate enterprise service buses.
