Project summary

With the rapid evolution in visualisation techniques, immersive technologies (i.e. virtual, augmented and mixed reality) are now touted as the most advanced means of visual communications within most industrial sectors. These immersive technologies offer significant opportunities for improved synergy between producers of Furniture, Fixture and Equipment (FFE) and the wider construction industry. However, it remains unclear how immersive technologies could revolutionise business and communications within the FFE sector.

This project aims to develop interactive immersive applications for showcasing construction products developed by the FFE sector. The study further aims to investigate the limitations of integrating immersive technologies with Building Information Modelling (BIM) as well as ascertain their effectiveness for communications among FFE and construction industry stakeholders. The project will explore the efficacy of various immersive techniques with a view of understanding the limits of the technology’s capabilities in meeting practical and business needs of the FFE sector.
