Placement case study - Gemma
Placement: Royal Air Force (RAF)
Gemma did a placement with the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 2010.
"Hi - I’m Gemma and a Geography and Environmental Management student. This year I chose to do a placement with the RAF Land Quality Assessment Team based near Cheltenham. Our team’s principle role is to undertake Phase 1 Land Quality Assessments of the land owned by the RAF within the UK. I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement and would highly recommend any type of placement to any student. I have built up numerous skills from this year including communication and research that will help me significantly in my final year.
"As an added bonus working for the RAF I had the opportunity of a flight in a VC10, which re-fuels other planes mid-air. The work experience I have gained is priceless especially in today’s economic climate; a placement year may be the tipping point of getting a job once I have graduated. So if you are wondering whether to take one, I’d say go for it!"
