Dartmoor field trip

We stay at Colehayes Park, near Bovey Tracey on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park. Time in the field is very valuable for geologists and so work both in the field and out is intense. We go on this field trip with the geographers.

On this trip you will develop a geological map, develop your ability to collect geological notes, sedimentary log and develop your ability to collect and interpret geological outcrops. You will also look at the development of the Dartmoor landscape and gain an understanding of tor formation. The field trip is designed to enhance subject knowledge but also to develop key field skills and field data presentation.

Each evening you will submit work for assessment by the course tutors giving you the opportunity to gauge your progress at this early stage of the course. By the end of the trip experience you will know your course colleagues and the staff team well. The field week is a great educational and social week and by the end you will feel a great deal more confident in your own abilities as a trainee geologist.
