Facilities in the Department of Geography and Environmental Management
The Department provides a range of excellent facilities for use by students and staff. It integrates more than 20 staff who work in a number of specialist learning support areas.
Diverse learning spaces
Our facilities are available all day and night to respond to your individual learning needs. Investment is on-going to create a broader range of spaces in which you can learn, collaborate and socialise. Our Hive areas are especially successful. These provide quick-access workstations, bookable rooms for group work and booth spaces in which ideas can be created and shared.
The department has access to four specialist laboratories, each with modern equipment and facilities:
- Earth Sciences.
- Environmental Change.
- Surveying Technology.
- Spatial Analysis.
Additionally, there are a large number of computing labs to you to use.
Audio, video and graphics
An Audio-Visual and Video Group provides video and editing facilities, sound recording facilities and a photographic and digital imaging service. The Graphics Unit provides a graphics service for all activities of the Department and employs graphics industry standard equipment and software for the output of research publications, displays, illustrations and posters.
IT Support and Cartographic Resource Centre
The IT Support Team provides computing support for staff and students as well as supporting general purpose computer laboratories, a specialist Spatial Analysis Laboratory and integrated computing facilities in the faculty’s design studio. A Cartographic Resource Centre provides mapping facilities and a digital map resource complemented by a traditional paper map collection.
