Field trips and live projects
Field trips, site visits, competitions and live projects are common events in our Department. They give students the opportunity to experience the real built environment.
Many of our students have referred to field trips and site visits as one the highlights of their time at university. Field trip destinations have included Lausanne, Barcelona, Glasgow, Berlin, Amsterdam, Venice, London, New York, Budapest, Warsaw and Istanbul.
Bristol is a vibrant and diverse community that provides an opportunity to work with local groups and specialists that positively transform and empower our communities.
The Department actively engages in 'live project' initiatives to gain practice-ready professional experience. They also enable students to develop a sense of civic social engagement and gain invaluable practical experience that is only achievable through hands-on learning.
Examples of live projects
- Bedminster Town Team: Revitalising the high street
- Bedminster Town Team: Building an exhibition stand
- Bedminster Town Team: Listening to the community
- Graduate fashion week exhibition stand
Frenchay Campus development projects
Due to the ongoing development of the UWE New Campus Masterplan, a number of large projects are currently under development on the Frenchay Campus. These include the new Students’ Union building, the new Bristol Rovers multi-purpose stadium and the new accommodation project. This puts UWE Bristol in a unique position regarding opportunities for real life experience and vocational understanding.
Our students will have the opportunity to develop a greater understanding of the application of construction technology and management aspects of projects in the site environment through guest speakers from industry, opportunities for site visits, case study material and work experience and internships during the course of their studies.
Interserve Construction, the main contractor, are working in collaboration with the Construction Management programmes to provide educational resource and support for Construction Property Management and Quantity Surveying disciplines.
