ESOL for Somali women

ESOL for Somali women”: A BCL project in collaboration with the Somali Resource Centre (Bristol).

Somali women in Bristol can often be isolated at home with small children. Supported by ‘thinking’ funding from the Community University Partnership Initiative (CUPI), this project aimed to identify the specific learning and communication needs of Somali women and how they might acquire better skills in the English Language, thus opening the doors to greater opportunities for them.

Based on the analysis of a questionnaire implemented over the summer of 2018, staff members from the BCL oversee and coordinate small-group classes at the Somali Resource Centre, drawing on help from student volunteers to develop and deliver learning materials.
