The Centre for the Study of Behaviour Change and Influence researchers undertake studies in a number of key strategic theme areas, including:

Behaviour change and technology 

The use of wearables, social media and apps to influence behaviour change


Communication behaviours, ideology and persuasive communication behaviours, interpersonal language, linguistics, conversational analysis and word of mouth.

Social Media, networks and influence

Using social media and networks to understand human interactions and behaviours. Also research on how social media and networks can influence behaviours.

Young people, health and wellbeing

Examining young people’s attitudes and vulnerabilities with regards to specific health issues, as well as understanding their awareness of the associated risks and behaviours.

Encouraging sustainable transport choice

Exploring the socio-cultural landscape of travel and transport behaviour, and how marketing communications can promote more sustainable transport methods, such as cycling.
