Festival of Learning
The UWE Bristol Learning and Teaching Conference was first held in 2011 and became an annual event. Now the Academic Practice Directorate is excited to build on its success with a new style of event.
The Festival of Learning will continue to provide a platform for those involved in teaching and supporting learning to communicate and share ideas about scholarship and good practice.
You said, we did…
Those who attended the Annual Learning and Teaching Conference in June were asked for their comments on replacing the one-day event with a Festival of Learning.
You asked for presence across UWE Bristol campuses and this new format allows us to take advantage of the facilities at several sites, as well as giving you the opportunity to cherry-pick events to fit in with your existing commitments. You can attend as much as you like in this flexible programme. The Festival of Learning is free to attend.
Festival of Learning, 25 February to 1 March 2019
Our aim is to create a buzz about Learning and Teaching to coincide with the NSS survey and we will link to the values of Feel Good February with sessions related to wellbeing and resilience. The event will also touch on the themes of employability and the Enhanced Year.
There will be more interactive activities than ever before in an attempt to reduce the focus on the standard presentation format - writing cafes, book club, pedagogic board games, and two networking lunches.
Confirmed contributions include keynotes by Professor David Read (University of Southampton) who argues for and against the use of lectures in modern university teaching, and Fabienne Vailes (University of Bristol) about the ‘Flourishing Student; an Enhancement Framework 101; and an update on the Grand Challenge with opportunities to become involved.
