We undertake equality analysis to consider the likely effects of our policies and practices on different groups protected from discrimination by the Equality Act in order to create a more inclusive university.

We would like to consult and engage with students, staff, visitors and members of the public on issues, policies and strategies which are important to all of us at the University.

Safeguarding policy – revision

A clear safeguarding policy will provide confidence for staff and students in how to respond to concerns, their role in the process and reassurance that UWE Bristol will address their concerns appropriately. It will therefore enhance safety for staff, students and children and vulnerable adults associated with UWE Bristol.

Research Excellence Framework

The Research Excellence Framework (REF) is an exercise undertaken on behalf of the UK's HE Funding Bodies to:
  • provide accountability for public investment in research and produce evidence of the benefits of this investment;
  • provide benchmarking information and establish reputational yardsticks, for use within the HE sector and for public information; and
  • inform the selective allocation of funding for research.

It is a process of expert review, carried out at national level, for each of the 34 subject-based units of assessment (UOAs). All Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) submitting to REF2021 must produce and implement a Code of Practice on the fair and transparent identification of staff with significant responsibility for research.
