William - Property Development and Planning
Property Development and Planning student William took an internship at Sovereign Housing in Bristol, a housing association that manages around 38,000 homes across the south and south west.
Real world experience
By going to site meetings and internal scrutiny meetings he got a really good feel for how the company works and the types of developments they're involved in. He credits the experience with putting a real world setting to the information on his course and boosting his employability.
"It has given me vital work experience. This will allow me to apply information to my course and also when I apply for graduate schemes they'll notice the experience on my CV."
His advice to other students taking up a placement?
"Realise you won't know anything in a real world setting to start off with. Just try your best to relate the knowledge you've learnt on your course to what you’re shown. Pay attention to everything and make it clear that any piece of extra insight that your employer may have is of interest to you."
