Mair - Building Surveying

Using an internship as a useful stepping stone

In her role as Building Surveyor intern, Mair was involved with measured surveys and producing CAD drawings, as well as assisting across multiple disciplines.

"The part I loved the most was surveying a wide range of different buildings, such as barns at Berkeley Castle, country farm houses, and residential buildings. The internship has given me a good insight into what Building Surveyors really do. I've also had a head start by conducting surveys such as a major defects survey, which I will be learning about in one of my modules next year. The experience will be a big benefit for my CV and will help towards finding a placement for third year."

What would her advice to others be about internships?

"I would definitely recommend any type of work experience whilst in university, whether it was a couple of weeks or three months, it's all valuable experience and will help in the future. Just get stuck in, try and make the most of the opportunity to get a good insight and a range of experience."
