Andy - MA Human Resources Management
I am taking my career to the next level
When his career changed, Andy chose to study Human Resources Management to give him the skills he needed to go further.
After a
restructure in his organisation, Andy decide that he wasn’t happy
with his new role and the work life balance it would give him.
Andy’s career had evolved over the twenty years he had worked for
his employer and he had taken on more of a people management role,
which led to his decision to undertake the MA Human Resources
Management course at UWE.
Andy says
“My job had taken on more of a people management focus, which I enjoyed immensely, however, looking at roles in the wider job market I could see that professional qualifications were required to progress further.
“UWE was ideally located for me as I live in Bristol and have a family, but UWE’s reputation was also very important and it was personally recommended to me by someone who was very enthusiastic about her experiences of the University.
“The best part of the course is that it is very interactive and encourages you to work as part of a team, sharing knowledge and experience to build on the teaching element. The teaching is done in a tutorial style rather than lectures, and questions and examples of personal experience are positively encouraged throughout each session. The course looks at topics that frequently come up in the news such as banking bonuses and pensions, so it is connected to current affairs.
“My next step on the course is a work-based placement at a law firm, and I am sure that my experiences there will give me more new perspectives on HRM in practice.”
Future plans
On completion of his MA, Andy is optimistic that it will give him the competitive edge he needs to succeed in this field.
“I hope that having gained this qualification, it will give me an advantage in terms of attractiveness and credibility for more senior roles in business and organisations.”
