VC Update issue 39
posted 12.04.2011
One University Administration
We have reached an important milestone in
the University-wide review of our administration, and are now able
to publish the proposed
new service structures for the following five
professional service areas:
- Academic Registry (Governance and Academic Services)
- Admissions and International Development
- Business Intelligence and Planning
- Marketing and Communications
- Student Services
In addition, following the briefing with Trade
Unions on 4 April and consultation with staff, we are now able to
publish the proposed changes for:
- Research, Business and Innovation (research administration
only)
Further changes will also involve a small
number of colleagues being integrated from faculties into the
following professional service areas:
- Finance
- Human Resources (hourly paid
lecturer/instructor administration)
- Facilities Administration
There will also be changes to:
- Faculty Executive support
- CPD/short course administration
(although these posts will initially retain a reporting line within
the Faculty)
Information on staff ringfence categories and
an updated set of the 'One University Administration'
FAQs
are also available on the
'One
University Administration' Human Resources web pages.
I realise the action we are taking to
transform the University will be unsettling for many members of
staff across the University. Please do speak to your line manager
if you have any concerns that are not addressed in the
University-wide communications or in the briefings given by your
manager.
I would like to thank colleagues across the
University for their commitment and dedication to get us to where
we are now. We began this process back in February 2010,
identifying the key areas where improvements would have the most
positive impact on our students and staff. We have worked with
colleagues across the University to make sure we get this right.
Your feedback and input has been invaluable in the review and
development stages.
We are now consulting on the proposed
new service structures. This is to gather your feedback on any
specific concerns that you feel have not been adequately addressed
through previous consultations in the review and development
stages. The consultation will run until the 5 May.
During this period, we will make every
effort to respond to your questions in as much detail as we can, to
try and ensure that you have a clear understanding of the local
implications in your service area. We encourage you to ask
questions via your line manager or to email futurefocus@uwe.ac.uk.
We hope to start recruitment to the new posts
in May, beginning with I grades. The exact timing is subject to the
outcomes of this consultation – please see the time
line (187KB)* for further information.
Thank you for your feedback at this time. We
are now nearing the implementation stage, and the transformation of
our learning and working environment for our students, staff
and external partners.
