Women into Engineering and Technology Challenge 2017: Assistive Technologies

Teams of technology minded young women are invited to apply their problem solving and creative skills to come up with an assistive technology design idea.

Degree Shows

The annual Degree Shows are a highlight of the UWE Bristol calendar. They showcase and celebrate new talent, with students taking the opportunity to share their work and providing inspiration for all who attend. Schools and Colleges are invited to attend these shows.

Activity title

Degree Shows – Art, Design, Film and Journalism

Target audience

Year 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 students interested in Art, Design, Film and Journalism.

When the activity will run

5 and 6 June 2017.

Where the activity will run

At UWE Bristol. The campus will vary depending on subject content offered.

How the activity will run

Subject enrichment for students studying Art, Design and Media subjects through contact with current students, a guided tour and exploration of their final year work.

Subject taster days

Students can gain an increased understanding of a subject area at UWE Bristol through workshops, presentations and practical activities. This activity can count towards the Heading Higher Passport Plus mandatory and optional modules.

Year 12 and 13 or equivalent students.

Brief description of learner outcome(s)

Increased understanding of the higher education environment, courses and their learning styles and content.

How the activity will run

Subject-specific workshops, presentations and practical-related activities delivered by lecturers and Student Ambassadors.

Year 12 campus visits

Year 12 or equivalent students can have the opportunity to come and visit Frenchay Campus, go on a tour, meet UWE Bristol students and gain awareness of the potential benefits of higher education.

Target audience

Year 12 or equivalent students with the potential to progress to Higher Education.

Brief description of learner outcome(s)

  • Awareness of the potential benefits of higher education.
  • Experience learning in a university setting.
  • Understanding of the transition to higher education and student life.
  • Awareness of the range of different courses and subjects available to study at higher education.

Wednesday 18 January

Where the activity will run

Frenchay Campus.

How the activity will run

Workshops will include a subject taster/lecture, a campus tour and the opportunity to meet current UWE Bristol students.

UWE Bristol Practice Nursing and Midwifery Group activities

Applicants to UWE Bristol Adult, Children's, Mental Health and Leaning Disabilities Nursing and Midwifery courses can increase their understanding of the selection process and prepare for interviews through group activities and discussion.

Target audience

Year 13 or equivalent students who are making an application to UWE Bristol for Adult, Children’s, Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Nursing and Midwifery.

Brief description of learner outcome(s)

  • Increased understanding of the UWE Bristol Nursing and Midwifery selection process group activities.
  • Enhanced group interview technique and skills.
  • Increased understanding of the UWE Bristol selection process involved for nursing and midwifery applications.

Glenside Campus

Where the activity will run

Glenside Campus (Adult, Children's, Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Nursing and Midwifery).

UWE Gloucester (Adult Nursing and Mental Health Nursing only).

How the activity will run

Applicants take part in practice group activities and interviews and receive feedback. They practise group interviewing technique and skills and discuss the interviewing and application process involved for nursing applications.

Due to the demand for places, priority is given to UWE Bristol Heading Higher Passport Plus school and college partners for these events.
