English language requirements

All UWE Bristol students must have a recognised English Language qualification of at least GCSE grade C or equivalent standard.

Due to recent Secure English Language Tests (SELT) changes by the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI), our English language requirements have been revised. Please see below for details.

Pre-Sessional English Courses

If an applicant is wishing to undertake Pre-Sessional English they must obtain the IELTS for UKVI Certificate at one of the test centres approved by UKVI. View a list of approved test centres.

We offer a pre-sessional course to help students achieve the required English level for undergraduate or postgraduate study. There are several entry points throughout the year, based upon the student's current level of English.

For details of the pre-sessional term dates and English levels required, please visit the English language support page.

The University will continue to consider English Language qualifications listed below for direct entry onto Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmmes.
