PAL undergraduate internships
In you final year of study? Already been a PAL leader? Why not enhance your employability skills by taking part in the PAL undergraduate internship.
Requirements
All applicants must:
- be studying in their final year at the University of West of England
- have an interest in HE Teaching and Learning, in particular Student Development and Peer Support
- have had experience as a PAL leader
- possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to relate to staff and students
- have a positive and flexible approach to work
- possess good IT skills, including Microsoft word, PowerPoint, e-mail and Internet
- be able to demonstrate an ability to work upon initiative and ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- be energetic, enthusiastic and highly motivated

Responsibilities
Students on the internship will have the following responsibilities:
- Assist the PAL co-ordinator and PAL leaders in promoting PAL within faculties and departments, as well as to first year students
- To work with staff and students in identified disciplines/programmes to introduce and implement PAL
- Assist the PAL director to identify areas, programmes and disciplines where PAL may be incorporated in the future
- Assist with the recruitment and selection of PAL leaders
- Motivate, encourage and support current PAL leaders
- Observe weekly PAL sessions and assist with the organisation and facilitation of leader debriefs
- Assist with the evaluation of PAL
- Organise and co-deliver relevant presentations and workshops
- Deliver training sessions
Training and support
Training
A thorough training programme will be delivered to all interns. Training sessions will cover topics such as giving feedback and observing sessions, amongst others. We believe that the skills interns develop are transferable to numerous future careers.
Training for PAL interns will take place in April/May on Frenchay Campus (room to be advised).
Support
The PAL office operates an open-door policy so that they are available wherever possible to support PAL interns.
