Students attending an Award Ceremony

In your final year?

Congratulations, you’ve almost finished your course! To make your final few months with us as easy as possible we’ve put together a list of things you need to do before you leave, as well as some useful information to help you prepare for life after university.

Update your personal details

Please make sure the following personal details are correct on myUWE or update them before you receive your results:

  • Your home address – this is where we’ll send your award certificate and certificate of credit
  • Your mobile number
  • Your personal email address

You can find out more about certificates and how your degree classification will be calculated.

Register for your graduation ceremony

We’ll send your Awards Ceremony invitation to your UWE Bristol email address once the date is confirmed. This is usually April for July ceremonies, and September for October/November ceremonies.

Once you’ve received your invitation, you'll need to let us know whether you’re planning to attend using our online registration system. You’ll need to register before the deadline, which is 16:30 on Thursday 21 June 2018 for July ceremonies.

Our information on Awards Ceremonies contains everything you need to know, including how to order a robe and buy guest tickets.

Prepare to pay Council Tax

Your Council Tax exemption ends on the last day of the assessment period in the last term of study. If your academic year starts in September, your Council Tax exemption will end on the last day of the summer assessment period (Friday 25 May 2018), or the last day of your placement. You should contact your council as soon as possible for an amended bill.

If you have re-sits later in the summer, you’ll still be liable to pay Council Tax from Friday 25 May – you won’t be exempt.

If you’re worried about how you’ll manage your money once you leave, our information on managing money for final year students may help. You can also make an appointment with one of our Money Advisers.

Download everything you need from our IT systems

You’ll lose access to university IT systems 42 days after your course finishes – this includes myUWE, Blackboard, your H Drive and OneDrive. Your UWE Bristol email account will remain active for one year, but you’ll need to log in directly through Office 365.

On myUWE you’ll find important documents like your Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR) – so set a reminder to download these and anything else you may want once you’ve received your final results.

Follow our IT guidance for final year students to make sure you’ve got everything covered.

Make use of our careers resources and support

If you’re not sure what you’d like to do once your course finishes, take a look at our online careers resources or come to a careers drop-in session before you leave. We’re here to help you with your graduate career search or setting up your own business.

Even after you graduate you’ll still be able to access our careers services via InfoHub.

Consider postgraduate study

Our postgraduate courses can help you fast-track your career, no matter what you studied for your undergraduate degree.

Postgraduate study is more accessible than ever before with a variety of funding and scholarship options available.

If you’re considering further study and would like to speak to someone about your options, come along to one of our Postgraduate and Professional Open days.
