Staying healthy

Like everyone else, as a student you may be unwell from time to time. These webpages will help you to stay well, and give you some guidance about what to do if you fall ill or have an accident.
If you are moving to Bristol to study, think about registering with the University Health Centre on Frenchay campus. Alternatively, you could register with a local doctors' surgery, although finding one to take you could take time. Either way, register when you arrive – don't wait until you are actually feeling ill! You might also want to find a local dentist to make sure that you are getting regular check-ups.
Most UK, EU and international students do not have to pay for prescriptions or other forms of National Health Service (NHS) treatment, but you will need to fill in the appropriate paperwork to make sure that you don’t get charged.
Accidents will happen and you need to know what to do and where to go when they do, either on campus or elsewhere. Hospital casualty departments will deal with the most serious problems. However, Bristol is also fortunate to have a number of NHS walk-in health centres, where you can queue for first aid and simple treatments.
