Moses - GDP student

 Moses, GDP student at UWE

"Since completing the GDP I have opted to stay on at University, and I have undertaken the masters programme.

When it comes to looking for a job I believe what I learnt through the GDP will help. The topics I found most useful were:

  • First, analysing personal strengths and weaknesses. Like a lot of students, time management was something I needed to work on and we discussed strategies to help us do that.
  • Second, advice around enhancing skill sets that employers look for through active volunteering, work placements, and sports/societies.
  • Finally third and by no means least networking was a valuable area. I secured my first job in a pharmacy through a friend and therefore recognised the importance of networking session. However I am not sure everyone else does."

Tracey - GDP student

"For me, the most important aspect of GDP is not just the help with building your CV and careers advice, but it is having someone to touch base with about anything relating to your course."

Asad, International GDP student

" The GDP fosters team work and the formation of bonds between students in a way that attending normal lectures or tutorials doesn't.

It enables students to take a step back from their normal studies, which are quite intensive, and enables them to just look at a bigger picture and see where everything fits in."
