Award categories

Students were able to be nominated for the following categories:

Undergraduate Intern of the Year

Our Undergraduate Intern of the Year Award recognises students who have undertaken a summer internship and have exceeded employer expectations. Nominations are based on feedback from employers, with nominees then invited to submit a reflective piece on their experience.

Sustainability Student of the Year

Bristol was the European Green Capital for 2015 and, since then, there have been many sustainability opportunities for students. This prize specifically awards and recognises the important contribution made by students and graduates within the sustainable arena, eg activity that relates to energy, nature, recycling or sustainable food and transport.

Entrepreneur of the Year

The Entrepreneur of the Year Award recognises outstanding contribution and progress by a student entrepreneur. In order to be eligible, you will have to be running your own business. This could be anything from a franchise, small start-up or a social enterprise – we want to hear from you.

Social Entrepreneur of the Year

The Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award recognises outstanding contribution and progress by a student social entrepreneur through one of our social enterprise support programmes.

Placement Students of the Year

These awards are designed to recognise the outstanding achievements of our UWE Bristol students during their sandwich placements, with nominations based on feedback from their employers. Awards include:

  • Faculty of Business and Law Placement Student of the Year
  • Faculty of Environment and Technology Placement Student of the Year
  • Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences Placement Student of the Year.

Global Experience Student of the Year

This award acknowledges the importance of our students who have taken the jump and gone global! As we now operate in a global economy the demand for students to demonstrate their global awareness has never been more important. As quoted by top international employer Price WaterHouse Cooper: “What global companies look for are people who can take a global perspective. If students have demonstrated they can work with other cultures and teams, that’s a big plus for us”.

Volunteer of the Year

The Volunteer of the Year Award recognises exceptional student volunteers who have made an outstanding contribution to a voluntary or not-for-profit organisation, making a real impact on their work. In turn, the nominated students have developed a wide range of fantastic skills which will benefit them in their future careers.

Arts, Creative Industries and Education Student of the Year

This award celebrates the creative problem solving and tenacious attitudes of our students who often choose to challenge themselves in order to develop their skills. We produce filmmakers and historians, teachers and actors, writers, designers and artists to name a few. The Arts, Creative Industries and Education Student (ACE) Work Student of the Year Award 2017/18 celebrates your achievements and enables you to reflect on your learning, which will ultimately inform and enhance your future career.
